LOCAL MARITIME PART-TIME POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (LMPS)
Sponsored by, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and employer
Synopsis

Under the LMPS, maritime-related businesses registered or incorporated in Singapore can nominate promising employees to attend part-time* postgraduate maritime programmes in local universities under the joint sponsorship of MPA and the employers.

*For the purpose of this scholarship programme, a part-time course is defined as a course which allows the student to continue to hold on to his current job full-time.

 

Terms
  1. Each scholarship is tenable for a maximum of two years from commencement of the programme;
  2. Applicants may apply to study at National University of Singapore (NUS), National Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU);
  3. The part-time postgraduate course undertaken must be related to  maritime sectors supported by the MCF;
  4. MPA will fund 60% of the total cost of each scholarship subject to a maximum of $15,000. The remaining amount would be borne by the sponsoring company. The terms of scholarship will include tuition fee and a book allowance; and
  5. Successful candidates will have to undertake to serve their sponsoring companies for 1 year. The successful candidate, his two sureties as well as an authorized representative from the sponsoring organisation will be required to sign a bond deed. Should the company decide to release the candidate from his service period to the company, MPA reserves the right to take over the balance of the service period.

 

Eligibility

Candidates nominated for the LMPS must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Be Singaporeans or Permanent Residents;
  2. Age 40 years or below;
  3. Sponsored by maritime-related businesses registered and incorporated in Singapore;
  4. Accepted / provisionally accepted by National University of Singapore (NUS), National Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University SMU) for admission to a part-time maritime postgraduate programme;
  5. Must not be receiving any other forms of financial training assistance or scholarship administered by other government bodies e.g. MAS or WDA etc; and 
  6. LMPS applications must be submitted to the MCF Secretariat at least one month before the commencement of the programme.

Note: Participants and business entities must strictly adhere to the eligibility criteria and terms of the scholarship.


Disbursement

Disbursement of the cost to be borne by MPA will be made to the sponsoring company within six weeks after the date of completion of the course of study and upon  satisfactory submission of supporting documents.
