The SAIL Scholarship aims to attract high performing GCE ‘O’ Level students to undertake seafaring education and career and become Masters or Chief Engineers of ocean-going merchant ships before transiting ashore to helm critical high-level appointments in the maritime industry.
Field of Study
Diploma in Nautical Studies (DNS) and Diploma in Marine Engineering (DMR) at the Singapore Maritime Academy, Singapore Polytechnic. Please click here for the training path for scholars attending the DNS Course or the DMR Course.
Monetary Incentive
SAIL scholars will enjoy sponsorship and bounty payments that amount up to $100,000. This includes:
• Sponsorship of tuition fee, a book allowance and generous training allowance of $900 per month during academic and shipboard training phases.
• A monthly monetary contribution, pegged to the COC qualification, will be deposited into a SAIL Savings Account.
• A bonus pay-out will be deposited into the SAIL Savings Account upon attaining each professional seafaring qualification.
Academic Incentive
Upon achieving COC Class 1 and completing their sea service, SAIL scholars can apply for the Joint Maritime Scholarship Scheme to do maritime postgraduate studies locally or overseas, through their sponsoring shipping companies. Under this scheme, MPA and the employer will co-fund the qualifying expenses on a 60-40 cost-sharing basis.
