JOINT MARITIME SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (JMSS)

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) administers the Joint Postgraduate Maritime Scholarship Scheme (JMSS) to help train and further upgrade the expertise of local employees of maritime-related companies in Singapore. Under the JMSS scholarship scheme, maritime-related companies based in Singapore can nominate their promising local employees to attend postgraduate maritime programmes in local or foreign universities under the joint sponsorship of MPA and the employers.


LOCAL MARITIME PART-TIME POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME (LMPS)

Maritime businesses can now jointly sponsor, with MPA, local employees to attend part-time maritime postgraduate courses conducted by the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU).

 


OVERSEAS TRAINER ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME (OTAP)

Maritime businesses can get MCF funding when they bring staff or trainers from their overseas offices or from overseas offices of their related business associates to be attached to the Singapore offices to train local employees on operational, commercial and technical aspects of maritime businesses or practices that link the two offices.

 


MARITIME ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME (MAP)

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) administers the Maritime Attachment Programme (MAP) to encourage the development of the expertise of local employees of maritime-related companies in Singapore. Under the MAP programme, maritime-related companies based in Singapore can nominate their promising local executives to be attached to the overseas offices of these companies as well as the overseas offices of related business associates of these companies for the purpose of enabling the executives to gain knowledge and experience in shipping business matters under the joint sponsorship of MPA and the employers.


SEAFARING ALTERNATIVE .. AN INVESTMENT FOR LIFE (SAIL) SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

The SAIL Scholarship is offered by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), together with the local seafarers’ unions and shipping businesses. The scholarship aims to attract O-Level students with outstanding academic results, strong leadership qualities and excellent track records in co-curricula activities to invest in their careers by spending the early years at sea as Deck Officers and Marine Engineers. SAIL scholars will enrol in the three-year Diploma in Nautical Studies (DNS) course or Diploma in Marine Engineering (DMR) course conducted by the Singapore Maritime Academy, a department of the Singapore Polytechnic. They will receive three key benefits namely, Monetary Incentive, Academic Incentive and Mentoring Support as a SAIL Scholar. In addition, upon attainment of the highest professional sea-going qualification, they are eligible to apply for admission to maritime postgraduate degrees, at NTU and overseas universities. They may also be co-sponsored by their employers and MPA to pursue their maritime postgraduate education


TRIPARTITE MARITIME SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) administers the Tripartite Maritime Scholarship Scheme (TMSS) to enable secondary school leavers with good GCE 'O' level results to be trained to become a master or a chief engineer of an ocean-going merchant ship. Commencing in year 2002, 10 scholarships per year will be awarded for school leavers to enrol in the July intake of the three-year Diploma in Nautical Studies (DNS) Course and the three-year Diploma in Marine Engineering (DMR) Course conducted by the Singapore Maritime Academy, a department of the Singapore Polytechnic.


MPA SCHOLARSHIP

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) awards scholarships to:

  1. Students planning to do an undergraduate degree course in either overseas or local university;
  2. Undergraduates; and
  3. Diploma holders with outstanding results will also be considered for studies in maritime-related disciplines.

MPA SPONSORSHIP

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) awards sponsorship to:

  1. Students planning to do a diploma course in:
  • Diploma in Maritime Transportation Management;
  • Diploma in Nautical Studies;
  • Diploma in Marine Engineering; and
  1. Existing students of the above courses.
