The MPA administers welfare schemes for members of the mercantile marine through its Shipping Division and the Singapore Mariners' Club (SMC). The SMC prides itself on being a 'home away from home' for seafarers of all nationalities during their stay in the Singapore port.
The SMC is located at 120 Cantonment Road near the port precinct and the Central Business District. It is open 24 hours a day (excludes the restaurant and bar).
For entry into the SMC and a discount at the restaurant, seafarers have to show their seaman's discharge books or other forms of identification.
The SMC also organises various sports and recreational activities for seafarers of all nationalities during their stay in the Singapore port. The International Sportsweek for Seafarers, Futsal Tournament for Seafarers, Bowling Tournament for Seafarers and World Maritime Day Hamper Presentation are the major events listed on SMC's calendar of events.
