Encouraging Community Involvement
Philanthropy & Volunteerism
MPA actively supports charitable causes through donations and sponsorships. These include maritime related causes like seafarers’ welfare, as well as causes in the wider community like the President’s Challenge, family service centres, hospices and the National Day Parade.
MPA also encourages our employees to play their part in caring and sharing. Our employee-driven CARE Team organises and promotes fund raising efforts and volunteering opportunities.
MPA staff contributed over $20,000 in cash and vouchers through the various activities organised by the CARE Team. The activities included MPA Cares Pledge, “Say it with Flowers” for Mother’s Day, Flea Market during Well-On-Worklife (WOW) Week and e-bidding. Staff also donated shopping vouchers that they have received as part of the corporate gift and birthday gift. This amount raised is in addition to the $17,000 that MPA staff contributed through the SHARE programme, an initiative which allowed staff to pledge a monthly donation which goes directly towards the beneficiaries of the Community Chest.
MOT Family Charity Outreach 2013
To keep up with MPA’s spirit of caring and striving to make a difference, MPA staff raised funds for the Community Chest of Singapore as part of the ‘MOT Family Charity Outreach 2013’ project. The total amount raised was presented by MOT to the Community Chest of Singapore, in a cheque presentation ceremony in September 2013.
The charity initiative was inaugurated in 2010 to reflect the collective commitment and efforts of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and its family of four statutory boards (Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Land Transport Authority, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Public Transport Council) towards a charitable cause.
Wish List for the Senior Citizens
MPA partnered Tanjong Pagar FSC, AWWA Senior Activity Centre and Redhill Moral Senior Activity Centre to find sponsorship for a ‘wish list’ of items, requested by the residents. Members of our CARE Team found sponsors among MPA staff for all the wish-list items and helped deliver the gifts to the residents.
Education & Outreach
As the champion for the maritime industry, MPA plays an active role in reaching out to the general public to educate and share with them information about the maritime industry, the career opportunities in the maritime industry and the contributions of the maritime industry to Singapore’s growth and development.
Singapore Maritime Week
Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) is the leading maritime event in Singapore. This event gathers the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events, in celebration of all things maritime. The range of activities and events organised by MPA, the industry and research and educational institutions, as well as the cosmopolitan profile of participants, reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Singapore as a major international maritime centre.
Maritime Learning Journeys
The Maritime Learning Journeys programme provides a glimpse into maritime operations carried out in Maritime Singapore. Students will go out to sea, visit local shipyards and take a tour at the newly opened Singapore Maritime Gallery to gain firsthand experience of our dynamic maritime industry.
