STRAITREP is the Mandatory Ship Reporting System used in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has adopted STRAITREP – the Mandatory Ship Reporting System in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore that was proposed by Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Objectives of the STRAITREP:
STRAITREP took effect on 1 December 1998, 0000 hours UTC. Masters of vessels who need to use STRAITREP must comply with its requirements according to regulation V/8-1(h) of the International Convention of the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, as amended in 1994.
Note that a master who provides or receives information with STRAITREP is not relieved from any of his duties and responsibilities as a master.
