ABOUT HOST PORT AUTHORITY

Pilbara Ports manages some of the world’s most significant bulk export ports, supporting Western Australia’s resources sector and global supply chains. Pilbara Ports handle approximately 81 per cent of WA’s iron ore exports and around 43 per cent of global iron ore trade, as well as major volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and salt.

Across Port Hedland, Dampier, Ashburton and Varanus Island, Pilbara Ports oversees safe, efficient and sustainable port operations, including vessel traffic services, ship scheduling, pilotage, marine safety, port security and the maintenance of shipping channels and infrastructure. LNG throughput at Ashburton and Dampier represents around one third of Australia’s LNG exports, while salt exports through Port Hedland and Dampier account for about 25 per cent of national production.

Pilbara Ports works closely with industry operators through a mix of common user and privately owned facilities and is delivering major infrastructure projects, including Lumsden Point, which will add new multi user berth capacity at Port Hedland.

Pilbara Ports' port estate spans more than 140,000 hectares of land and seabed, with further areas designated for future ports. Through leasing and licensing, Pilbara Ports supports a broad range of port related industries, with over 1,700 hectares leased to more than 55 port users.
