Fire Onboard Liberia-Registered Passenger Vessel WORLD LEGACY Extinguished

The fire, which occurred on deck nine of the Liberia-registered passenger vessel WORLD LEGACY, has been extinguished by SCDF Marine firefighters.

2.       The first group of 190 passengers has been safely evacuated from the vessel and has disembarked at HarbourFront Ferry Terminal. SCDF paramedics and emergency medical technicians are on site to provide medical support if needed. The evacuation of the remaining passengers is ongoing.[1]

3.       A core crew will remain onboard the vessel to conduct safety checks, carry out essential vessel operations, support investigations, and ensure the safe management of the vessel while at anchor. The rest of the crew will be disembarked progressively.

4.       The deceased crew member, an Indonesian national, has been transferred ashore. The relevant authorities are handling the necessary follow up, and the Indonesian embassy in Singapore has been informed.

5.       MPA has established a safety zone around the vessel and is issuing navigational broadcasts to advise passing vessels to keep clear.

6.       The cause of the fire is under investigation.

[1] The earlier reported figure of 224 passengers, of whom 185 were Singaporeans, was based on preliminary information provided at the time of the incident. We wish to clarify that there are a total of 271 passengers on board, of whom 139 are Singaporeans. The updated passenger figure has since been reconciled with the vessel’s onboard records by its agent.
