Fire Onboard Singapore-Registered Container Vessel Wan Hai 503 Off Indian Coast

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has been informed that there was a fire onboard the Singapore-registered container vessel Wan Hai 503, approximately 80 km southwest of Azhikkal, Kerala, India. The incident occurred on 9 June 2025 at about 1230hrs (Singapore Time). The vessel is managed by Wan Hai Lines (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

2. There were 22 crew members onboard. Eighteen crew members have been accounted for and are in the process of being transferred from lifeboats to a passing vessel. Some injuries have been reported among them. Four crew members remain unaccounted for. There are no Singaporeans onboard.

3. The Indian authorities have been alerted.  The Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy are rendering assistance to the crew and conducting search and rescue operations for the missing crew. 

4. MPA is in close contact with the vessel’s management company to provide support and is monitoring the situation closely. MPA will be investigating the incident.
