The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the China Classification Society (CCS) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration in maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation and talent development in Singapore.

2.       The MOU was renewed during the Sixth North Bund International Shipping Forum in Shanghai, building on the partnership established in 2023. Since 2023, MPA and CCS have worked with local research and industry partners on projects ranging from the use of B100 biofuel on harbour craft to the evaluation, testing and verification for smart ships.

3.       Under the renewed agreement, MPA and CCS will expand their collaboration on research and development in decarbonisation, including green fuel value chain, marine electrification and energy efficiency technologies for vessels. Both organisations will also deepen collaboration on digital and smart ship initiatives, such as digital testing and risk assessment for autonomous vessels, to support research and innovation in the maritime sector.

4.       Both organisations will also collaborate to support talent development through programmes such as the MPA Global Internship Awards, the MaritimeONE Scholarship Programme and internships, as well as attachments which will provide students and aspiring maritime professionals with exposure to international maritime companies and industry practices.

5.       Mr Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive, MPA, said, “The renewal of our MOU with the CCS builds on our partnership to advance a more sustainable and innovative maritime sector. We look forward to exchanging expertise and working together to develop solutions for maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation while nurturing the talent needed to support the future maritime workforce.”

6.       Mr Zhao Yan, Chairman and President, CCS, said, “CCS has strengthened its presence in Singapore and aims for Singapore to be the most comprehensive overseas maritime technology centre and one-stop integrated service platform. Through this strengthened partnership with MPA, we are jointly advancing research and contributing to the development of a robust and future-ready maritime ecosystem that champions decarbonisation and smart technologies.”
