MPA – SMF Joint Office for Talent and Skills

The Tripartite Advisory Panel (TAP) for Future-ready Maritime Workforce, convened by the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) with the support of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), has put forth its recommendations to prepare, equip and sustain the upskilling of the Maritime Singapore workforce.

A key recommendation is the creation of a focal point to facilitate collaboration and cooperation among the key stakeholders to prepare Maritime Singapore’s workforce to upskill and transform alongside industry developments.

As announced by Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat during the Ministry of Transport Committee of Supply 2024 speech, the MPA-SMF Joint Office for Talent and Skills was established to be such a focal point.

The key focus areas of the Joint Office are:

Talent

Receive queries/feedback from maritime companies on access to local/ foreign talent in Singapore, identify specific shortage occupations, and pilot ways to build a local core for the maritime industry.

Skills

Develop training courses with institutes of higher learning and training providers, especially in emerging areas such as cybersecurity, data science and sustainability using a competency-based stackable, micro-credential model.
