Ferry Ran Aground At Cyrene Reef (05-12-1998)

At 1555 hours, a ferry 'Baruna Permai' with 33 passengers and 7 crew ran aground at Cyrene Reef. The ferry was enroute from Singapore to Tanjong Batu, Indonesia at the time of the incident.
A total of 5 rescue craft from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Police Coast Guard (PCG) were at the scene at 1620 hours to render assistance to the passengers and to conduct rescue operations.
By 1728 hours, all passengers were safely brought back to Regional Ferry Terminal at World Trade Centre. There was no injury to any passenger or crew member. There was also no oil pollution.
The MPA is investigating the incident.
