Freighter and Bunker Tanker Collide Off the South-Eastern Waters of Singapore-Clean-Up of Oil Pollution in Progress, 3rd Update
An aerial recce was conducted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) at 1400hrs today as part of its monitoring efforts of the oil spill that resulted from a collision between the freighter, MV Hermion and a bunker tanker, Neptank VII, yesterday.
The Singapore port waters have remained generally clean.Patches of light oil sheen with debris that were sighted in the waters off St John's Island were scooped up by the MPA's anti-pollution craft.
The beaches in the East Coast and Sentosa, and Marina Bay remain clean. While no oil spill has been sighted, oil booms are still placed off the waters of Marina Bay and Sentosa as a precaution.
Ten anti-pollution craft continue to monitor the situation in our port waters and to clean up any oil patches sighted, including the broken patches of oil that were earlier observed in the Singapore Strait, about 8km south of Changi.
The MPA oil spill clean-up operation remains in progress.
