Minister Lui Tuck Yew to Lead the Singapore Delegation to the 27th Regular Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly and Working Visit to London, the United Kingdom

Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Lui Tuck Yew will make a working visit to the United Kingdom from 20 to 25 November 2011. He will be leading the Singapore delegation to the 27th Regular Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly which will be held at the IMO Headquarters in London.

At the IMO Assembly, which meets biennially, transport ministers and senior maritime officials from around the world will address various maritime policy and regulatory issues. The Assembly will also hold an election for the 40-member Council of the IMO. The IMO Council is the IMO's executive organ that supervises the IMO's work in the safety and security of shipping, and the prevention of marine pollution by ships. Singapore was first elected into the IMO Council in 1993 and has been re-elected at every election since then. Singapore will be seeking re-election at the upcoming Assembly session.

During his visit to London, Minister Lui will meet with the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Transport Ms Justine Greening and his transport counterparts from other IMO Member States. He will also meet with the IMO's Secretary-General, Mr Efthimios Mitropoulos, the Secretary-General-elect Mr Koji Sekimizu, and other senior IMO officials. In addition, Minister Lui will visit various land transport facilities in London.

Minister Lui will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and the Land Transport Authority.
