The World War II bomb that has been discovered some 3.5km off the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal has been successfully detonated at 2100hrs today. Personnel from the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Police Coast Guard (PCG) with 4 naval craft, as well as 6 MPA and PCG craft, were involved in the operation.
The MPA would like to express its appreciation to the RSN, in particular, the Naval Diving Unit and the PCG for their assistance and co-operation in making this operation a success.
The detonation, previously scheduled to take place yesterday had been postponed because of poor underwater visibility and strong currents.
End of Release.
