MPA Appoints Three New Board Members
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has appointed three new members to its Board. They are Mr Chan Tuck Hoi, Mr Thomas Tay Jwee Hwa and Mr Albert Chua. Their 2-year appointment as board members will be with effect from 2 February 1998.
Mr Chan, who is also the 1st Vice President and Secretary of the Singapore Shipping Association, brings with him vast experience and expert understanding of Singapore's shipping and maritime affairs. He is presently the Executive Vice President of Regional Container Lines Co Ltd. Mr Chan graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in Economics and Geography.
As the General Secretary of the Singapore Maritime Officers' Union since 1978, Mr Tay has actively represented the welfare and interests of seafarers at international conferences such as the Asian Seafarers' Summit meeting. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Cranfield School of Management, UK.
Mr Chua is presently the Acting Director (Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate III) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He graduated from the NUS with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours (Class I) in English Literature.
Stepping down as board members are Mr Ho Meng Kit, Managing Director, Economic Development Board and Mr Leow Ching Chuan, General Secretary, Singapore Organisation of Seamen. Both Mr Ho and Mr Leow served on the Board in 1996 and 1997.
Leading the new MPA Board is its Chairman, Mr Peter Ho Hak Ean, the Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) in the Ministry of Defence. Other board members include:

The MPA Board is responsible for formulating initiatives and defining strategies that help promote Singapore as a global hub port and international maritime centre. To this end, it will continue to actively engage in the Authority's activities.
