Information for Seafarers Visiting Singapore

MPA works closely with the seafarers missions and the maritime unions (SMOU and SOS) to run the seafarer drop in centres and provide seafarers with access to shore-based welfare facilities and services, including housing, training and activities to promote seafarers’ welfare. This includes:

  • Shore-based housing is provided for seafarers at the Singapore Mariners Club’s Maritime House.
  • Training of seafarers through the Singapore Maritime Academy (e.g. simulator training)
  • Welfare facilities and activities are catered for through the seafarers’ drop in centres and activities like the Day of the Seafarers’ celebrations, sports events and sightseeing tours.
The drop-in centres found at various terminals in the Port of Singapore offer free Wi-Fi, internet services and telephone services via international calling cards for seafarers to keep in touch with their loved ones. Seafarers may also enjoy the movies and television programmes available, and keep up with news from home with daily subscriptions of foreign newspapers sent to the centres every day. Details of the seafarers’ drop-in-centres located in the Port of Singapore can be found here.
MPA also provide conciliation services in line with MLC-mandated complaint procedures to resolve disputes between employers and seafarers on board both Singapore and foreign ships in Singapore by working with the other flag administrations and stakeholders.
