The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has launched “Voyage Beyond: Reimagining Maritime Singapore”, a travelling exhibition commemorating MPA’s 30th anniversary. The exhibition invites Singaporeans to celebrate Singapore’s maritime heritage and imagine the future of Maritime Singapore.
2. The exhibition was officially launched today at Lot One Shoppers’ Mall by Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, Mr Jeffrey Siow. It will travel to various locations across Singapore including Funan, IMM, the National Library Building, Punggol Coast Station and Tampines Mall. Visitors are invited to share their aspirations for the future of Maritime Singapore via a public feedback portal accessible through QR codes at the exhibition. Feedback received will contribute to the development of the Maritime Singapore Master Plan.
3. “Voyage Beyond” offers visitors an immersive journey through Singapore’s maritime evolution – from historical trade routes to its current status as a world-leading global hub port and international maritime centre. Visitors can get up close to rare 14th century maritime artefacts recovered from ancient shipwrecks and explore interactive exhibits on the future of maritime operations. These include technologies such as automation, virtual simulations and cleaner marine fuels supporting port operations, vessel management and the development of Tuas Port.
4. A key focus of the exhibition is the people behind Maritime Singapore and the diverse career opportunities within the sector. Career talks and learning journeys will provide visitors a chance to hear directly from maritime professionals and seafarers, offering a glimpse of the opportunities in the industry, as well as life both ashore and at sea.
5. In conjunction with MPA’s 30th anniversary, members of public and schools can also sign up for the new public tour to Sultan Shoal Lighthouse[1] at https://go.gov.sg/discovermaritime-eventbrite. Located off Tuas, the Sultan Shoal Lighthouse offers visitors a view of Singapore’s evolving Tuas Port development alongside one of its longstanding maritime landmarks.
6. Acting Minister for Transport, Mr Jeffrey Siow, said, “Singapore’s raison d’etre as a trading port dates back centuries, long before the establishment of our modern port. By bringing this exhibition to community spaces, we hope Singaporeans will gain a deeper appreciation of our historical and ongoing contributions to global supply chains, and more importantly, our commitment to strengthening Singapore as a trusted and efficient global maritime hub.”
7. MPA Chief Executive, Mr Ang Wee Keong, said, “Singapore’s maritime journey reflects centuries of trade and transformation. This exhibition showcases the innovation, technology, and people driving the industry forward, and I hope that it will inspire more Singaporeans to step into the diverse exciting career opportunities that connect our nation to the world.”
