Boarding of Singapore-Registered Vessel By Suspected Pirates Off The Coast of Kenya
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received a report that a Singapore-registered Liquefied Petroleum Gas vessel, YORK, was boarded by suspected pirates at approximately 90 nautical miles from Mombasa, Kenya. A distress alert was received at about 2025hrs (Singapore time) on 23 October 2010 while at position Lat 4 Degree11'S Long 41 Degree19'E.
At that time of the incident, the vessel was reported to be on her way from Mombasa, Kenya to Mahe, Seychelles. There are 17 crew on board the vessel.
MPA is working with relevant government agencies and the ship owner, York Maritime Company Pte Ltd.
