Nominations for Seven Categories of the 
Singapore International Maritime Awards 2017 are now open


         The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is calling for nominations for the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) 2017. The biennial IMA recognises individuals and companies for their outstanding contributions to Singapore's development as a premier global hub port and a leading international maritime centre. 

2.      The following award categories for IMA 2017 are now open for nomination. Please refer to Annex A for details. The nomination forms and assessment criteria for IMA 2017 are available here. Nominations will close on 6th Jan 2017. 
1) International Maritime Centre Award 
2) Excellence in Manpower Training and Development Award
3) Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award
4) SRS Ship Owner of the Year Award
5) Bunker Award
6) Maritime Service Provider Award
7) Offshore & Marine Engineering Award

3.      The SRS Green Ship of the Year Award, which recognises quality Singapore-registered ship with energy efficient ship designs, is the eighth award category. This category is to be evaluated and awarded based on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and/or other additional energy efficient measures, such as the use of abatement technologies and alternate fuels, etc.   

4.      Mr Andrew Tan, Chief Executive, MPA, said, ““IMA 2017 is a key anchor event of MPA’s Singapore Maritime Week 2017. Next year’s awards take place against a backdrop of difficult challenges facing the industry. All the more we wish to recognise the contributions of individuals and companies that have played significant roles in developing Singapore as global hub port and a leading international maritime centre. It will also be a good opportunity for companies to share and profile their best practices amidst the challenging environment.” 

5.      IMA 2017 will be held on 25th April 2017 in conjunction with the 12th Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), recognised as Singapore's iconic week of maritime events and activities, this event is attended by prominent maritime personalities.

Annex A

The full list of award categories, which are open for nomination, is as follows:

1. International Maritime Centre (IMC) Award 
Awarded to the individual or company that has contributed significantly towards the development of Singapore as an International Maritime Centre.

2. Excellence in Manpower Training and Development Award
Awarded to the company, organisation or institute of higher learning that has contributed to the development of maritime manpower in Singapore by demonstrating commitment towards the nurturing, grooming and training of people, or achieving excellence in training.

3. Outstanding Maritime R&D and Technology Award
Awarded to the company or research institution in Singapore for outstanding innovation in the research, development or test-bedding of technology for the maritime industry.

4. SRS Ship Owner of the Year Award
Awarded to the outstanding owner of quality Singapore-registered ships.

5. Bunker Award
Awarded to the outstanding bunker supplier or bunker craft operator in Singapore that has demonstrated commitment to quality standards, quantity assurances and customer satisfaction.

6. Maritime Service Provider Award
Awarded to the maritime service provider that has demonstrated exceptional professional performance and contribution to Singapore’s maritime industry.

7. Offshore & Marine Engineering Award
Awarded to the company that has contributed significantly towards the development of Singapore’s Offshore & Marine Engineering sector.
