Maritime Trade Digitalisation e-Webinar – Electronic Bills of Lading
Maritime trade is undergoing a phase of unprecedented digital transformation. The COVID-19 pandemic, together with global supply chain disruption, has accelerated demand for digital transactions. To facilitate this, Singapore is one of the first countries to amend her legislation on 19 March 2021 and enact a legislative framework for electronic transferable documents.
This allows Singapore to align our legislation with international standards, namely the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR) by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). The electronic bill of lading (eBL), which is a key legal document used to prove ownership of goods in maritime trade, will benefit from this development.
The MPA Academy organised a Webinar on 31 March 2021 on the topic of Maritime Trade Digitalisation, with a focus on eBLs. The Webinar seeks to raise awareness of Singapore’s legislative development to facilitate the use of eBLs and share benefits of using eBLs in cross-border trade.
