Smart Port Challenge (SPC)

The SPC adopts similar processes used by renowned start-up incubators and accelerators worldwide for sourcing potential start-ups to incubate and accelerate. It is designed as a 6-month programme with the following 6-step process:

  1. Proposal Submission
  2. Proposal Evaluation and Selection
  3. Ideation Workshops with selected start-ups
  4. Demo Day
  5. Award of Funding Support


Event Concept for Smart Port Challenge


The inaugural Smart Port Challenge was organised in 2017, with participation from 12 maritime corporates providing 21 challenge statements. The event received a total of 81 proposals and 12 start-ups were selected for the Demo Day. A total of 7 start-ups projects have since been awarded with 4 maritime companies.

In its 2nd run, Smart Port Challenge 2018 has garnered support from 17 maritime companies providing 20 challenge statements. For this year, we have received a total 124 applications and have selected the final 18 start-ups for the 8-week PIER71 Accelerate Programme running from 27 Sept to 21 Oct 2018 with the Pitch Day slated for 28 November 2018 to showcase the 18 start-ups.
